Standard Chartered Bank has named Ian Gibson as new regional head of private banking for Africa, Middle East and Europe, effective from mid-October 2015.

Based in London, Gibson will report to Michael Benz, global head, private banking at Standard Chartered Bank.

Gibson, who has over 20 years of banking experience, previously held several roles at Standard Bank including global head of their private clients business where he built a HNW business and established a presence in countries such as Kenya and Nigeria.

He also worked as CEO of their Offshore Group, and as chief operating officer and finance director.

Benz said: "According to a recent report, there are approximately 163,000 millionaires living in Africa with combined wealth holdings of $670bn.

"As Africans increasingly go global, there is also a growing desire to differentiate between offshore and onshore wealth management. Ian’s extensive experience and deep local knowledge will add significant value and momentum as we grow alongside the continent."
