South Africa-based Standard Bank has named Will Thorp as new chief executive for its Offshore Group, replacing Mark Hucker .

In his new role, Thorp will oversee the bank’s offshore businesses in Jersey, Isle of Man and Mauritius, as well as distribution and support teams in London and Johannesburg.

The bank’s Offshore Group now has 400 staff and provides banking, investment, and trust and fiduciary products to its international client base.

Thorp, who has been working with Standard Bank since 14 years, was most recently CEO of Standard Bank Jersey and Island Head – Jersey.

He has held a number of roles within the bank including finance director of the bank’s Russian operation, based in Moscow, and global finance director for investment banking, based in both London and Johannesburg. Thorp also worked as chief financial officer for Standard Bank Offshore Group.
