Lowe, most recently managed a range of portfolios aimed at clients seeking a lower-risk investment approach to fund management.
Previously, he looked after discretionary private clients as well as leading the team that recommends collective funds and also supported the six discretionary model portfolios Smith & Williamson made available to advisers over Novia.
Lowe, who joined Smith & Williamson in 1995, has served as director of investment management prior to being made partner.
However, Smith & Williamson said it had no plans to replace Lowe and is in the process of contacting his clients, seeking to transfer their mandates to other managers at the firm.
