Schroders fund manager Andy Brough has increased its stake in Liontrust Asset Management to 23%.

The move increased his total Liontrust holding on 30 January from 8.96 million shares to around 10.1 million shares.

The acquisition will increase Schroders total holding to 23% worth around £25 million.

The transaction came hot on the heels of last week’s trading update from Liontrust, in which its assets under management have passed the £3.6 billion mark.

At 11am, share in Liontrust were trading 2p higher at 249p.

Brough has bought Liontrust since its listing in 1999 through his UK Smaller Companies and UK Mid 250 funds.

Previously, Liontrust’s acquisition has taken Schroders total holding in the firm to a little less than 30%, after it purchased a 14.5% stake in the firm from Fidelity International in June 2009.
