Porter, who will take over his new role with immediate effect, had worked as the head of wealth management for Alexander Forbes Wealth for five years.
Before joining Alexander Forbes, he had held roles at Heartwood Investment Management, HSBC Private Clients and Sedgwick Financial Services.

Commenting on the appointment, Craig Massey, chief executive of Sanlam Private Investments UK, said that Porter "would be working with us to develop a strategic direction for our burgeoning wealth management business".
Craig Massey was made the CEO and Bruce Ely-Johnston was made the head of business development in November 2012, and a restructure of the firm’s investment team also saw Richard Champion being appointed as the chief investment officer, Paul Surguy being appointed as the head of managed funds and Pieter Fourier appointed as the head of global equities.
