Initially, there has been no announcement for Macdonald’s appointment. He has previously held a number of senior risk roles at Prudential, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Aviva.
Royal London head of regulatory risk and compliance James McCourt will report directly to Macdonald.
A Royal London spokesman says: "Jon was appointed towards the end of last year. He has an impressive career history having held a number of senior roles and is a fellow of the institute of actuaries."
