RBC Wealth Management has hired Michael Melton from Morgan Stanley Wealth Management to expand the firm’s presence in southern California, reported Reuters.

Melton was with Morgan Stanley and its predecessor wealth management firms for almost a decade. Now, he has joined RBC’s San Diego office as a branch director.

In his new role, Melton will aims to expand RBC’s adviser presence in the region, which already includes offices in Beverly Hills, Pasadena and Manhattan Beach among others.

Melton has over 20 years of experience and has also previously worked at UBS AG’s US wealth management division. He later joined Citigroup and then Morgan Stanley Wealth Management after Citi’s Smith Barney merged with Morgan Stanley’s wealth unit in 2009.

RBC Wealth Management has approximately 2,000 advisers managing more than US$235 billion in client assets.
