The Principal Financial Group has hired Tim Dunbar as new executive vice president and chief investment officer effective from 1 January 2014.

Additionally, Dunbar will continue in his current role as chief investment officer and retain oversight of the company’s capital markets group.

In his new role, Dunbar will report to Larry Zimpleman, chairman, president and chief executive officer of The Principal.

However, Lou Flori, vice president of capital markets, and Dennis Menken, vice president and portfolio manager for the organization’s General Account will report to Dunbar.

Dunbar most recently served as chief investment officer in 2012 and as senior vice president of strategy and finance in 2011. Since joining The Principal in 1986, Dunbar has served various roles at the firm including managing director, executive director and head of equities.
