People’s Bank of China (PBOC) has hired Jun Ma as new chief economist in its research bureau.
Additionally, the bank has also appointed Lu Lei from Guangdong Finance Institute as head of its research department.

Prior to joining PBOC, Ma worked at Deutsche Bank for 13 years as chief economist for Greater China and head of China and Hong Kong strategy.
Before to this, he worked at the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank as an economist and senior economist for eight years. He has also spent two years at an economic research institution run by the State Council, or China’s cabinet.
An internal Deutsche Bank memo said: "Ma has made a hugely significant contribution to the success of Deutsche Bank’s franchise in Asia and worldwide through his writing, his assiduous client service and his influence as a senior manager in research."
Ma said: "2014 will mark the beginning of a series of growth-enhancing structural reforms and should witness a cyclical economic recovery."
