Credit Suisse has recruited Philip Chalkley to become group head
for its UK-based private banking business. He comes from Barclays
Private Bank.

Chalkley’s appointment will reinforce Credit Suisse’s expertise in
providing bespoke private banking services to entrepreneurs,
corporate executives and family offices, the bank said. He reports
to Charles Egerton- Warburton, Credit Suisse’s head of UK/Ireland
Private Banking.

SG Hambros Bank, the UK arm of SG Private Banking, has elevated
Warwick Newbury to chairman to replace the retiring Nicholas
Assheton.

Eric Barnett, the current group head of private banking, replaces
Newbury as chief executive. Jean-Pierre Flais, the current group
chief financial and operating officer, becomes deputy chief
executive.

Newbury has spent more than 40 years in private banking, including
30 years with Coutts and nearly ten years as the first chief
executive of SG Hambros Bank following the acquisition of Hambros
Bank by Société Générale in 1998.

He was responsible for the successful integration of SG Hambros
into SG Private Banking.

Switzerland

Rothschild hires team from UBS

Rothschild Private Banking and Trust is recruiting a team of ten
private bankers from UBS to build its capacity in the Swiss
domestic wealth market. The head of the new team will be
responsible for the Swiss market and will report to Thomas Pixner,
head of German speaking Europe and Central and Eastern Europe. The
identities of the team members themselves have not been
disclosed.

Rothschild has already expanded its private banking capabilities in
other markets this year, recruiting Eastern Europe and Central Asia
specialists from Clariden Leu. Another team joined from BBVA
(Switzerland) to cover clients from Southern Europe and Latin
America.

Reshuffle at Coutts von Ernst after resignation

Thomas Schmidt has left as head of private banking at Zurich-based
Coutts Bank von Ernst, leading to a reorganisation of
responsibilities. Gerhard Muller will head the Switzerland and
eurozone region, in addition to his current role as chief
executive. Andreas Schüpbach heads Eastern and Central
Europe.

William Lawton becomes responsible for the UK, Iberia, Latin
America and Middle East. Lawton will also continue in his role as
the bank’s chief investment officer.

Barclays Wealth hires for investment structuring

Barclays Wealth has appointed former UBS executive Olav Noack as a
managing director and head of investment structuring. He will work
on asset allocation and risk management strategies to suit
individual client’s needs and objectives and aspirations.

Noack joins the firm from UBS Global Wealth Management where he
headed up its Wealthplanning Life Insurance operation for
businesses and companies across Switzerland, the European Union,
the US, Latin America and Asia.
