The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has summoned two HSBC executives to provide further evidence as part of its enquiry into tax evasion case.

Senior HSBC executives including CEO Stuart Gulliver, former head of global private banking division Chris Meares and the BBC Trust chair Rona Fairhead, will appear before the committee chaired by the Labour MP Margaret Hodge for a fresh hearing on the bank’s Swiss operation.

The HSBC executives, whose hearing is scheduled on March 9, 2015, will be followed by HMRC second permanent secretary and tax avoidance commissioner Edward Troupe and former permanent secretary for tax at HMRC Dave Hartnett.

HSBC chairman Douglas Flint said: "Most accountable, I think, are the management in Switzerland. It’s very difficult for people outside Switzerland to get any access to the detailed account-level information in Switzerland.

"That’s something only the management on the ground can have access to for all the privacy and secrecy reasons."
