Old Mutual Global Investors (Old Mutual GI) has hired John Peta as its new head of emerging market debt.

In the new role, Peta will initially manage the $150m Old Mutual Local Currency Emerging Market Debt fund from 20 April, and will report to fixed income head Christine Johnson.

At the same time, the firm will review the management arrangement of the $250m Old Mutual Emerging Market Debt fund.

The two funds, sub-advised by Stone Harbor Investment Partners, are domiciled in Dublin.

Referring to the Peta’s appointment OMGI chief executive Julian Ide said, "The addition of his [Peta’s] expertise certainly enhances the range of products we can offer to our global client base and we are now seeking to bolster this investment capability by recruiting additional resource."

Peta began his career in fixed income in 1987 at Merrill Lynch, Seattle, prior to joining Chancellor LGT Asset Management, San Francisco in 1994.

He previously served at Threadneedle since 2012 to co-head the emerging market debt team along with Henry Stipp, and departed the company last January.

His earlier stints also include Standish Mellon Asset Management and Acadian Asset Management.
