Northern Trust has named its president William Morrison to the role of vice chairman.

Morrison, who will assume the new role on 1 October 2016, will continue to spearhead the cultivation and development of key relationships with clients and prospects, both personal and institutional, worldwide, the company said.

He will report to Northern Trust chairman and CEO Frederick Waddell, who will now take over the role of president.

“Bill is a leader with tremendous experience and outstanding judgment and we will benefit from his focused efforts around growing our talent, client relationships and capabilities,” Waddell said.

Morrison held the role of president since 2011, and from 2011 to 2014 served as both COO and president.

He was executive vice president and CFO from 2009 to 2011 and before that held several leadership positions such as president of wealth management from 2003 to 2009.
