René Weber (48), currently Switzerland’s Executive Director in the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will replace in SIF the current Head of the Markets Division, Ambassador Oscar Knapp, who will reach retirement age on 31 August 2013. He will serve as the new President of the Radiotelevisiun Svizra Rumantscha (Switzerland’s Romansh language radio and television).

The Federal Council has conferred the title of Ambassador on René Weber for the duration of his period in office at SIF. Mr. Weber will be responsible for representing Switzerland’s interests in financial market policy issues and multilateral negotiations with various individual countries and the EU. René Weber completed his studies with a doctorate in economics. Before working as Switzerland’s IMF Executive Director, he worked in the Federal Finance Administration (FFA) and in the former Federal Office for Foreign Economic Affairs (FOFEA).
