Rich Nuzum, Head of Investments for Mercer North America, added, "Alex’s expertise in risk management and track record of designing and implementing creative financial solutions to address complex social and environmental problems make him an ideal fit for this position. We are very excited about Alex joining the RI team."

Prior to joining Mercer, Alex was a senior vice president at Guy Carpenter, another Marsh & McClennan operating company, where he founded and ran the firm’s GC Micro Risk Solutions division focused on designing and developing micro(re)insurance programs for development banks, microfinance institutions and insurers.

Additionally, he supported the firm’s broader growth efforts advising public and private risk bearing entities on a variety of issues with a focus on disaster risk management, energy liability and credit risk. While at Guy Carpenter, Alex also contributed significantly to the completion of Mercer’s forthcoming Strategic Asset Allocation in a Time of Climate Change report. He received a BA in English from the University of Puget Sound, where he was a Coolidge Otis Chapman Honors Scholar.

Mercer’s Responsible Investment (RI) team facilitates the integration of environmental, social, and corporate governance considerations into investment management processes and ownership practices in the belief that these factors can have an impact on financial performance.
