Launched in 2005, the PRI initiative is a global network for investors and financial industry participants who are committed to integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into their investment practices and ownership policies.

In implementing the principles, signatories contribute to the development of a more sustainable global financial system.

Matthews Asia CEO William Hackett said: "As a signatory, the broader consideration of environmental and social issues into the investment approach is a natural evolution of our existing investment process.

"A growing number of our clients and employees now recognize the positive impact companies who adopt ESG practices can have both in terms of the communities they operate in and through long-term shareholder returns.
