Matthews Asia has appointed Andy Rothman to the newly created role of investment strategist.

Based in San Francisco, Rothman will be responsible for performing research targeted on China’s ongoing economic and political developments.

Additionally, Rothman will act as a spokesperson for the firm on China and will deliver the firm’s thought leadership initiatives related to investing in Asia. He will also support the Matthews China investment team and complement the research efforts conducted by the broader investment team.

Rothman has joined Matthews from CLSA, where he served as China macroeconomic strategist for 14 years conducting analysis into China and delivering his insights to the firm’s institutional investor base.

Earlier to this, he spent 17 years in the US Foreign Service and also worked as head of the macroeconomics and domestic policy office of the US Embassy in Beijing.
