Martin Currie announced the appointment of Ranjit Sufi as country head for its US office.
Sufi joins as executive vice-president, sales and client service. He will be responsible for our North American sales and client-service team and will lead our business development in the US and Canada. Based in New York, he will join Martin Currie on 31 May.

With over 20 years’ experience of institutional sales, marketing, client service and portfolio management, Sufi has a strong record of building long-term, value-adding relationships with clients, plan sponsors, trustee boards and consultants. Previously, he worked as managing director at Tradewinds Global Investors, an affiliate of Nuveen Investments, and before that worked for nine years at Nicholas Applegate Capital Management where he led the global sales team and was a member of the company’s executive committee.
Prior to Nicholas Applegate he spent almost four years as a Principal with Barclays Global Investors. Sufi started his industry career as a fund manager with AirTouch Communications/Pacific Telesis Group, where he managed over US$2 billion.
Martin Currie had recently strengthened its US team with the appointment of Mel Bucher as senior vice-president, US sales & client service. Bucher is an experienced and proven practitioner with 20 years’ client-service and sales experience in wholesale, hedge and institutional markets. He joined from SVM, the Edinburgh-based boutique, where he was head of institutional clients. Previously, he worked at Baillie Gifford, Scottish Widows and Templeton Investment Management, where he started his career. Mel will lead our client-relations team for our client base in the US and Canada.
