Manulife Asset Management, an asset management arm of Manulife Financial, has secured institutional mandates accounting to more than $2.5bn in assets during the first quarter of 2014.

The $1.2bn global equity mandate by UK wealth management firm St. James’s Place is the major mandate the company has acquired during the period.

Manulife Asset Management’s Global Equity team, led by Paul Boyne and Doug McGraw, has been appointed to manage St. James’s Place mandate.

Manulife Asset Management’s global chief investment officer Christopher Conkey said: "We are honored to be selected for these important investment mandates. As with all of our clients, we look forward to long business partnerships managing their assets."

The asset manager has won majority of mandates in Asia, from clients including two sovereign wealth funds that invested in the US Large Cap Core Strategy, managed by Walter McCormick and Emory (Sandy) Sanders.

In North America, Manulife’s Strategic Fixed Income Strategy and Total Return Bond Strategy has been awarded several new mandates over the thrre-month period, alongside taking up new asset allocation mandates across Asia.
