Manulife Financial has named Philip Witherington as new senior vice-president and chief financial officer for its Asia division.

Based in Hong Kong, Witherington will report to Steve Roder, senior executive vice- president and chief financial officer, Manulife Financial as well as Robert Cook, senior executive vice-president and general manager, Asia.

In his new role, he will be responsible for offering robust financial leadership in support of Manulife’s Asia expansion strategy.

Additionally, he will drive transformational change within the Asia finance function and managing all finance aspects for the division, such as income statement, product profitability, tax, capital and risk management, and talent development.

Witherington joined Manulife from HSBC where he most recently managed finance for the retail banking and wealth management global business in Asia Pacific.

Prior to this, he served as vice-president finance at AIA Group in Hong Kong as a key executive in their IPO preparation. He also worked with KPMG, based in London and Hong Kong, specializing in financial services audit and advisory services.
