The new office will mainly focus on large wealth population as California is a national target for high-net worth individuals. The firm’s offering in San Francisco includes corporate and finance practice.

The new office, which marks as Withers’ fourth US location, will also focus on the technology sector.

Additionally, the firm has appointed Nancy Yamaguchi from Hoge Fenton Jones & Appel as the firm’s M&A partner on the West Coast.

Withers opened its Californian base in January 2014 by hiring Louis Mezzullo as a consulting partner from McKenna Long & Aldridge to expand the firm’s trusts and estates practice.

Margaret Robertson, managing partner of Withers, said: "Our high net worth individual client base includes a proportion with interests in the tech sector, and we’re looking to grow there. California is a huge economy for high net worth individuals and there’s a lot of investment into the economy from Asia where we have a strong base."
