Law firm K&L Gates has bolstered its investment management, hedge funds and alternative investment practice by hiring Todd Betke as ninth new partner for its Washington, D.C., office.

In his new role, Betke will focus his practice on commercial, legal, and regulatory issues surrounding private equity, venture capital, and hedge fund formation, as well as related acquisitions and dispositions of portfolio companies and assets.

Betke joined K&L Gates from Pepper Hamilton and also worked as outside counsel to dozens of funds during his 20-year career.

Betke, who has experience with the formation, regulation, and operation of varying types of funds, including Small Business Investment Companies licensed by the US Small Business Administration, also served as general counsel to a number of privately managed, US government-sponsored Enterprise Funds.

He has also advised clients on a wide range of transactions and corporate governance matters across the US, Europe, and Asia. Betke represents investment funds with capital commitments ranging from $25m to $750m.
