Also, Hess will be responsible for building the group’s market share in private equity transaction services and will report to Andrew Pindar, the group’s head of investment banking.

In addition, he will become a senior member of the investment banking team. He will also recruit a handful of staff to expand the newly created team.

Prior to joining Investec, Hess worked for 16 years at UBS and co-founded the Swiss bank’s private equity group. He is also the founder of Hess & Co Capital Advisors.

Andrew Pinder, head of investment banking at Investec, said: "We’re seeing an uptick in M&A. We’re confident that private equity firms have assets they still need to dispose of. At the same time, there are new funds that have raised pots of capital that they are actively looking to deploy."
