Hunter Hall has hired Phillip Hart, a former Legg Mason Asset Management Australia executive, as new head of its institutional team.

In his new role, Hart will be responsible to focus on improving service delivery to existing relationships as well as building new business in the institutional market.

Based in Sydney, Hall will join joins Simon Bridger and Weibin Ge as part of the team focusing on the Australian Equities Fund (AEF) which was established in July 2013.

Prior to joining Hunter Hall, Hart has worked with Legg Mason and Constellation Capital.

David Deverall said: "The Australian Equities Fund has achieved a 14.3% return since its inception on 16 July 2013. Simon is finding some outstanding stocks and, now that the Fund is well established, the time was right to secure an outstanding head of institutional to manage the relationships with our wholesale clients and grow the distribution capacity.
