HSBC’s chief executive for Hong Kong Anita Fung plans to step down next month following a management restructure in China.

Helen Wong, currently CEO and president of HSBC China, will assume Fung’s role in the interim period until a permanent replacement is found.

Fung, who joined HSBC in 1996, has decided to leave the firm to pursue other opportunities outside the company. She also served as head of global banking and markets for the Asia-Pacific region since 2010 and treasurer and head of global markets in the region since 2005.

As part of the restructure, Helen Wong has also been appointed as new CEO of Greater Greater China, effective March 2015.

Based in Hong Kong, Wong will report to Peter Wong, CEO of HSBC Asia-Pacific.

In her new role, Wong will oversee China, Hong Kong and Taiwan and will be responsible for managing all of Greater China amid efforts to expand and broaden its business in the region.

Wong, who joined HSBC in 1992, has previously held a number of senior management roles including deputy chief executive officer of HSBC China in 2009 and president and CEO in 2010.

David Liao, currently head of global banking and markets for HSBC China, will replace Wong as president and CEO of HSBC China.

Additionally, John Li, president and CEO of HSBC Taiwan, will also report to Helen Wong from 1 March 2015.
