HSBC has appointed Mark Cooke as its new global head of operational risk, effective from 1 January 2014.
In his new role, Cooke will succeed Alan Smith, who has been overseeing operational risk globally since Matthew King retired in July 2013, Risk.net reported.

Smith has been overseeing HSBC’s progress on its Three Lines of Defence and advanced measurement approach (AMA) programmes.
Cooke joins HSBC from Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, where he held the position of chief risk officer.
He joined Barclays Wealth and Investment Management in 2009 and prior to this he worked at UBS in a variety of roles including chief operational risk officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and managing director of Americas branch operations.
