The team, led by Fiona Le Poidevin, chief executive of Guernsey Finance – the promotional agency for the Island’s finance industry – visited Miami, New York City and Boston during a two-week trip.

The focus for the first part of the three-centre trip was Miami, where Miss Le Poidevin held a series of meetings with legal advisers, accountants and other professional advisers to the wealth management sector, before being joined by Michael Betley from Trust Corporation for further meetings and the STEP Miami conference.
Le Poidevin said: "Visiting Miami was extremely useful as it allowed us to meet new contacts from the region and raise awareness and understanding of what Guernsey can offer to private clients, including our new foundations law and our world-first image rights legislation. The region is a significant hub for Latin America and is known as the Brazil of the North, particularly in recent years as many Brazilians have been buying real estate in the region. It means Miami is an important location for us if we are going to continue our work in the Latin American market.
"What was encouraging is that a lot of the practitioners we met in Miami were already familiar with Guernsey. Exhibiting at STEP Miami allowed us to reinforce our key messages and gave us some good leads that we can now work on."
The focus of the second part of the trip saw the delegation visit New York City and Boston. During meetings with advisers in New York, another hub for Latin America, Miss Le Poidevin continued to reinforce Guernsey’s private client offering, but the main focus turned to highlighting Guernsey’s position as a leading international funds centre.

By GlobalDataFor this part of the trip, Le Poidevin was joined by Guernsey industry practitioners Caroline Chan from Ogier, Gavin Farrell from Mourant Ozannes, Patricia White of Legis Fund Administration Services and PwC’s Evelyn Brady. The delegation attended the International Bar Association (IBA) conference in Boston and also held a series of meetings with legal advisers and practitioners linked to some of the leading US fund managers.
This year’s visit to the US followed a Guernsey Finance delegation to represent the Island at the private wealth STEP LatAm conference in Panama at the end of 2011 and attendance at last year’s private equity funds conference SuperReturn USA in Boston.
Le Poidevin said: "These visits make sure that we are doing our utmost to attract quality business from across the other side of the Atlantic, whether it is private client or investment, North or South America."
