Grant Thornton, a global accounting firm, has merged with BDO to create a new firm in the Isle of Man.

The newly merged firm will continue to operate under the Grant Thornton name, and employ more than 30 staff.

The merger has doubled Grant Thornton’s client’s portfolio.

As part of the merger, BDO employees will be moved to Grant Thornton’s current office in Douglas and will retain their original roles.

Grant Thornton said that it has been expanded the Douglas office to account for the merger.

The new firm will be headed by ex-BDO directors, Michael Crowe and Martin Kneale alongside Grant Thornton’s directors, Dennis McGurgan and Richard Ratcliffe.

BDO currently has 24 office locations in the UK, more than 3,500 employees. Grant Thornton offers accounts preparation, auditing, tax compliance and tax advice to a variety of clients.
