During his time as CEO he guided the company through an historically challenging period in the market, diversified the firm’s client and asset base and significantly expanded its distribution to serve investors across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and other global markets.

Henderson said: "I would like to thank all of my colleagues for their friendship and support in my various roles over the years."

Campbell Fleming, CEO of Threadneedle, commented: "I’d like to thank Crispin for his leadership over the past five years and recognise his substantial contribution over more than 10 years at Threadneedle.

"During that time Threadneedle has continued to deliver for its clients through strong, sustained investment performance, and our business has grown, gaining market share in the UK and Europe and expanding into new markets of Asia Pacific and the Middle East. During Crispin’s time as CEO of Threadneedle, the company grew its client base, assets under management and revenues substantially. I wish Crispin a long and healthy retirement."
