Boston-based mutual-fund company Fidelity Investments has appointed Abigail Johnson as its new chief executive officer.
Johnson will succeed her father Edward Johnson III in the new role.

In 1984, she graduated from William Smith College holding a degree in art history, and in 1988 from Harvard Business School.
Abigail Johnson begun her full-time career at Fidelity in 1988, and has served in nearly all major divisions of the company.
In 2001, she was designated as the head of the mutual-fund unit of the company, took charge of the firm’s retirement business in 2005, while in 2007, she was made responsible for overseeing the company’s corporate-retirement services and fund sales to individuals.
She will also retain the post of the company president which she held since 2012 which will make her responsible for overseeing asset management, retail and institutional brokerage, retirement and benefits services.
