Peter Horrell, former chief executive of Barclays Wealth & Investment has been appointed head of UK business at asset management firm Fidelity Worldwide.

Following a big wave of senior departures from Barclays, Horrell said he was stepping down from the UK lender in June this year after 24 years at the business where he handled more than 1.5 million clients globally.

Horrel will take charge of Fidelity’s UK operations in April 2015 to oversee the group’s £70 billion UK business, subject to regulatory approval.

Barclays announced in September that Citibank veteran, Akshaya Bhargava, will step up as chief executive of Barclays’ Wealth and Investment Management business.

More recently, former Barclays Wealth’s managing director of private banking and wealth management, Stuart Cummins, joined C. Hoare & Co. as head of wealth management strategy.
