European Banking Federation has named chairman and CEO of Societe Generale Frederic Oudea as new president, replacing Christian Clausen effective 1 January 2015.

Oudea has been elected as a president for a period of two years.

Oudea has served as a member Societe Generale Group’s management board since 2002, initially as chief financial officer, and most recently as chairman and chief executive since 2009.

He also served as chairman of the French banking association FBF and as chairman of the Steering Committee on Regulatory Capital at the Institute of International Finance.

Clausen is currently president and group CEO of Nordea Bank AB.

Oudea said: "As Europe remains faced with a fragile recovery, promoting a solid and competitive European banking sector, able to finance growth in the context of increasing disintermediation, will feature high on the EBF’s agenda going forward.

Clausen said: "As a man of experience and dedication leading a truly pan-European financial institution, and as a recognized banker, Frederic Oudea is well placed to help EBF determine its strategic course in the coming years."
