Swiss lender EFG International has named Joachim Straehle as its new CEO, who will replace John Williamson.

Williamson, who was appointed in the role of CEO on June 2011, will now become vice chairman. He will also be proposed as chairman at the company’s annual general meeting (AGM) next year.

From 2006 to 2013, Straehle served as CEO of Bank Sarasin & Co.

From 2002 to 2006, he held the position of Head of Private Banking International at Credit Suisse, where he served for 20 years. He also held other senior roles at Credit Suisse, which includes regional private banking head for the Middle East, Asia and Russia.

At the same time, EFG will propose Niccolò Burki to serve as the new chairman of its board.

Burki, who founded Burki Attorneys-at-Law in 1997, was named a member of EFG’s Board of Directors on 26 April 2013.
