German banking group Deutsche Bank has appointed Werner Steinmueller as the new CEO of Asia Pacific.

Steinmueller has been serving at the German bank since 1991, and since 2004 was Deutsche Bank’s head of global transaction banking (GTB).

He will move to Hong Kong for the new role, becoming the first-ever management board member to be based in this region. The lender operates in 16 Asia Pacific countries and employs about 20,000 staff in this region.

Steinmueller will be replaced as GTB head by John Gibbons, who will be based in London.

Gibbons, who has an experience of 34 years in the banking industry, most recently served as regional executive for Europe, Middle East and Africa and global head of banks and broker dealers for treasury services at JPMorgan.

Between 1992 and 2001, he served at Deutsche Bank and Bankers Trust.

Gibbons will join Deutsche Bank in October in the new role, reporting to Deutsche Bank head of corporate and investment banking Jeff Urwin.
