Deutsche Bank has appointed Peter Wharton-Hood as chief country officer for South Africa region, effective 16 September 2013 succeeding Herman Bosman.

Wharton-Hood will be responsible for the strategic direction and overall governance of the bank’s South African operations and will lead an established and successful management team locally across all divisions. He will report to Stephan Leithner, Member of the Management Board.

Wharton-Hood joins Deutsche Bank from Standard Bank Group where he was Group Chief Operating Officer for the last four years. With more than 20 years experience in finance, banking and financial services Wharton-Hood was with Edgar’s Stores, one of South Africa’s largest clothing and fashion retailers, for five years as Group Finance Executive before joining the Corporate and Merchant banking division of the Standard Bank Group in 1997. Wharton-Hood joined the Executive Committee of Standard Bank in 1999 and has held a number of executive roles in South Africa, Africa and internationally, including that of Group Deputy Chief Executive prior to his current role.

Bosman, who in February announced his intention to leave the Bank this year, has been with the Bank for seven years and will continue in his current position until September. He will remain involved with key clients until the end of the year as part of the planned transition.

Stephan Leithner, the responsible Management Board Member for South Africa said: "Herman has been instrumental in strongly positioning Deutsche Bank’s franchise in South Africa over the last seven years. Peter brings with him a wealth of experience at a senior level in South Africa and throughout the continent which, in conjunction with the highly capable senior management team in South Africa, will enable Deutsche Bank to further its ambitions."
