Coutts, the private banking arm of RBS, has appointed Lord William Waldegrave as the new chairman of its trustee business in Jersey.

The move is part of the bank’s strategy to expand its Jersey trust business. Recently, the bank also hired Naomi Rive as chief trust officer, Fiona Whitehead as head of new business and Miles Le Cornu as private client services head.

Waldegrave most recently held the role of a non-executive director at Fleming Family & Partners.

Prior to that, he worked at UBS Investment Bank as a vice chairman, and as chairman of the Global Financial Institutions Group at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein.

Waldegrave political career included cabinet posts between 1990 and 1997 as Secretary of State for Health, Secretary of State for Agriculture, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, as well as Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

He entered the House of Lords in 1999, and served as president of the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee between 2000 and 2003.
