Aviva Investors, the global asset management business of Aviva, has named David Cumming as chief investment officer (CIO) for equities.

Cumming, who will assume the new role on 2 January 2018, will succeed Chris Murphy who has been head of global equities at Aviva Investors since January 2015.

Cumming will report to Euan Munro, CEO of Aviva Investors. He will be responsible for spearheading Aviva Investors’ equity teams globally, which manage £69bn of assets on behalf of Aviva and external clients.

Prior to joining Aviva Investors, Cumming worked as head of equities at Standard Life Investments (SLI) between 2010 and March 2017, having joined SLI in 1998. He also served as head of UK equities in 2000.

Earlier, he also worked at Morgan Grenfell Asset Management, Edinburgh Fund Managers and Royal London Mutual.

Murphy will continue to manage the Aviva Investors UK equity fund, the Aviva Investors UK equity income fund and the Aviva Investors distribution fund.
