Slaughter, who joined Citigroup in 2005, most recently served as chief operating officer of CIB globally. Prior to this, he has worked for nearly 20 years at Goldman Sachs in Europe.

Citigroup has created the head of CIB role in Asia-Pacific five years ago to get its commercial and investment banking arms to work closely together.

Raymond McGuire, global head of CIB, Citigroup, said: "Mark is one of our most senior leaders and his appointment to this position will allow us to continue our momentum in the region."
