BNP Paribas Wealth Management has recruited Samir Bimal as its new managing director and head of Indian markets.

Bimal will replace Stephane Honig, who has transferred from the wealth management to global markets arm, based in Hong Kong.

Bimal will be responsible for leading the private banking teams servicing domestic wealthy Indian clients as well as Non Resident Indians (NRI) in Asia in the new capacity, due to be effective immediately.

He will be based in Hong Kong, and will report to BNP Paribas Wealth Management Asia Pacific chairman and CEO Mignonne Cheng.

Bimal, who has 25 years of experience in the domestic and international wealth management industry, joined the BNP Paribas Wealth Management in 2012 in the position of managing director and CEO, India.

Additionally, Himanshu Mehta has been named as managing director and CEO of BNP Paribas Wealth Management India.

Mehta will be based in Mumbai, where he will head the bank’s wealth management division.

He has been serving at BNP Paribas Group for over 25 years, and since 2009 has been serving as managing director and head of domestic corporate group, India for BNP Paribas.

Mehta will report hierarchically to Samir Bimal and functionally to Jacques Michel, CEO and country head of BNP Paribas India.

Referring to the two appointments, Cheng remarked: "India is a key market for BNP Paribas Wealth Management in Asia Pacific. These appointments demonstrate the deep bench of talents we have within the bank. We are confident that Samir and Himanshu will play a pivotal role in driving business growth and bolster the high quality of services we offer in this market."
