Baudouin Prot, the chairman of BNP Paribas, has decided to resign on 1 December 2014 after the French bank agreed to plead guilty to violating US sanctions and pay nearly $9bn in fine.
Prot is expected to be replaced by senior adviser Jean Lemierre.

However, BNP Paribas board will decide on successor of its chairman Baudouin Prot this week.
Prot, who joined BNP Paribas in 1983, served as chairman of the board in December 2011 and as CEO from 2003 to 2011.
Additionally, Georges Chodron de Courcel, COO and chairman of the bank’s Swiss unit and Jean Clamon, head of compliance since 2008 have also decided to leave the bank.
