UK-based Baring Asset Management has appointed Laura Luo as new head of its Hong Kong China equities, effective 12 September.

In her new role, Luo will be responsible for managing the Hong Kong China equities team as well as being lead manager on the Baring Hong Kong China Fund and segregated portfolios.

Based in Hong Kong, Luo will report to Wilfred Sit, chief investment officer for Asia.

Luo has over 17 years’ experience of researching and investing in Hong Kong China equities. She joins from Schroder Investment Management where she worked for over 12 years.

Since 2002 Luo has been lead manager on several Hong Kong China equity funds, responsible for assets under management of over $2bn.

According to Barings, Winston Ke, who has materially contributed to the portfolio management of the strong performing China A-share product since its inception, will become sole lead manager on all China A-Share portfolios, effective immediately and will report to Luo.

Ke joined Baring Asset Management in April 2010 from First State Cinda Asset Management in Shenzhen, China, where he covered China A-Share markets. He was brought on board at Barings for his insight into investing in China A-Share equity markets.
