Barclays Wealth, the global wealth manager,
has scooped Merrill Lynch’s chief executive for Switzerland just
months after he landed the role.

Patrick Ramsey will join Barclays Wealth, the
UK’s largest wealth manager with total client assets of £153.5bn
($240.5bn), as head of Switzerland.

He will be responsible for all management,
growth and direction of the Swiss business and oversee a team of
about 400 people. 

The hire comes as part of Barclays’ plans to
double client facing wealth managers to about 1,300 within the next
five years, after a £350m investment in the business.

“Switzerland remains one of our most important
global business hubs. This is a very exciting time in the
development of Barclays Wealth,” said Emmanuel Fievet, head of
Barclays Wealth international private banking EMEA.


Ramsey took over as general manager and chief executive of Merrill
Lynch (ML) Bank (Suisse) in April
, but joined the bank in
2002.

Barclays Wealth said the combination of
Ramsey’s wealth and asset management experience will be “crucially
important” to its clients and commitment to Switzerland.

Switzerland, has been appointed to a new senior global role as
global head of Latin American markets.
