Barclays’ wealth and investment management
division is to open an office in Zurich.

Barclays Bank (Suisse), which has served
clients in Switzerland through its Geneva office since 1986, aims
to expand on opportunities with private clients and financial
intermediaries at domestic and international levels.

As a part of extension, Barclay’s investment
bank, which has operated in Zurich since 2001  will work with
the wealth management team to offer their expertise and build on
existing relationships, a Barclays spokesperson said.

New head to build out
team

The build-out of Barclays’ Zurich wealth unit
will be led by Martina Bigliardi Moehr, who has been named as its
new managing director.

Moehr, who joins from Clariden Leu, will be
assembling a team of senior bankers and support team this summer,
said the bank.

Her team will focus on Russia and Commonwealth
of Independent States (CIS) region, other international markets and
the Swiss domestic market.

Barclays Bank (Suisse) general manager and
head of wealth management in Switzerland, Patrick Ramsey said:
“Switzerland is one of our key hubs from which we serve global
high-net-worth clients and intermediaries and the development of a
Zurich office has been one of our key strategic goals for some
time.”
