British banking giant Barclays has named Tim Main as the new chairman of its Global Financial Institutions Group (Global FIG).

Main will be responsible for developing relationships and strategic dialogue with key clients across the globe. He will work alongside FIG Banking Americas co-heads Lee Einbinder and Richard Bonaventura.

He will be based in New York, and will report to Barclays’ head of Americas banking John Miller.

Main most recently worked as a senior managing director at Evercore Partners, where he was responsible for covering clients in banking, specialty finance and wealth and asset management.

Before working at Evercore, Main served over 20 years at JP Morgan. He joined JP Morgan in the role of an analyst in 1987, later managed Global ECM and also headed JP Morgan’s FIG unit for over 10 years as in-house advisor on the firm’s own deals.

Overall, Main has an experience of over 25 years in banking. He has advised some of the largest deals over the past two decades such as the merger of Wachovia and Wells Fargo, RBC’s $4.1bn acquisition of Ally Canada, as well as M&T Bank’s $3.7bn purchase of Hudson City.
