The head of Barclays’ wealth unit, Thomas Kalaris, has been
named executive chairman of the Americas, a newly created role.
Kalaris will retain his executive committee responsibilities as
Barclays’ chief executive of wealth and investment management
division after relocating to New York from London.
Barclays said the new role is created to position the bank in
the changing industry environment of American businesses and
reflects its business and geographic diversification universal
banking model.
In a statement, Barclays said Kalaris will focus on presence in
the Americas in the new role, where there has been significant
growth in earnings and a broader and deeper investor base has been
developed in recent years.
Kalaris became a Barclays executive committee member in the
Americas in November 2009 and he chairs Barclays client committee
and co-chairs the Barclays America management team.
