Barclays has appointed Arne Hassel as the new chief investment officer for the global investments and solutions (GI&S) team within its wealth and investment management business, effective from November 2015.

In the newly created role, Hassel will oversee the GI&S division’s investment functions, including its investment strategy, behavioural and quantitative finance and portfolio construction teams.

Hassel, who has over 25 years investment experience, is joining Barclays from Coutts Private Bank, where he worked as head of investment strategy since April 2014.

Prior to Coutts, Hassel worked as co-head of multi-asset allocation at the UK’s largest pension fund, Universities Superannuation Scheme.

He has also, previously, worked as the head of global tactical asset allocation and multi-strategy at Millennium Global Investments as well as at Goldman Sachs Asset Management.

Barclays Wealth and Investment Management head of global investments and solutions, Solomon Soquar, said that Hassel "brings a depth of intellect, expertise and vision that we require in a CIO".
