As directors, Liss and Patel will both have an advisory role, instructing HNW clients on issues related to domestic and international wealth structuring, multi-generational estate planning, wealth preservation strategies and planned charitable giving.
While Patel will primarily serve clients in the West Coast and Texas regions from San Francisco office, Liss will serve the New York team that includes Anthony Ruscigno, director, and Kristen Rode, assistant vice president.
The duo will report to director Chris Johnson.
Commenting on the appointment, Mitch Cox, head of wealth management, Americas for Barclays, said: "We are extremely pleased to welcome professionals of Stephen and Alpa’s caliber to Barclays. As we seek to organize, preserve and enhance our clients’ wealth across generations, Stephen and Alpa’s wealth management experience will be invaluable in supporting our client’s lifestyles and broader ambitions for their families."
Most recently, Liss had been a partner at the international law firm Withers Begman LLP, a position he held for 11 years, while before joining Barclays, Patel had spent the last 18 years advising corporate executives and HNWI and was previously the west coast head for the Wealth Planning Group at Credit Suisse.
Barclays’s Wealth and Investment Management and its Wealth Trustees divisions have 13 offices nationwide.
