Barclays has appointed Jeff Deck as country head for its Australia and New Zealand operations, following the departure of Cynthia Whelan to Telstra, according to an internal memo seen by publication The Australian.
Deck was formally installed in the role after serving on an interim basis since Whelan left the role in May. He will remain in his role of vice chairman, Asia Pacific, and will be based in Sydney.

Deck has been with Barclays for 16 years and during his time with the firm has been extensively involved in the management of a number of strategic initiatives throughout Asia Pacific.
Prior to joining Barclays, Deck has worked for CSFB in Australia for more than five years.
The memo said: "Australia represents an important market for Barclays in Asia Pacific where we have a significant fixed income, currencies and commodities client base, and a successful advisory and mergers and acquisitions franchise."
