Barclays Africa Group has named Nomkhita Nqweni as new chief executive of wealth, investment management and insurance (WIMI) succeeding Willie Lategan.

In her new role, Nqweni will manage the Absa Life, short-term insurance, fiduciary and distribution businesses in addition to her current portfolio which includes wealth advisory, stockbroking and asset management.

Nqweni will be reporting to Maria Ramos, Barclays Africa CEO.

Nqweni is currently Barclays Africa CEO of Wealth and Investment Management, responsible for circa ZAR268bn of assets under management. She also served as a member of the Barclays Africa executive committee since 2013 and chairs the Group’s Diversity and Inclusion Council.

She joined Barclays Africa in 2010 from Alexander Forbes Financial Services Holdings Ltd (Africa), where she worked as managing director.
