Baillie Gifford, an Edinburgh-based investment management partnership, has appointed Tom Slater as head of the North American team.

Slater replaces interim head Gary Robinson, who was of the North American team. The company said that Robinson will retain a leading role within the team.

The company added that Slater will also continue in his role of joint manager of the £3.6bn Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC, which he has been successfully managing since 2009 alongside James Anderson.

Slater joined Baillie Gifford in 2000 and worked in the Developed Asian and UK Equity teams before joining Scottish Mortgage as deputy manager in 2009. He became a Partner in the firm in 2012.

Baillie Gifford joint senior partner Charles Plowden said: "Tom Slater’s appointment underlines our commitment to building a world class North American Equities team, and will also ensure that this group maintains close ties with our global strategies."

Additionally, the company has shifted John MacDougall to the Long Term Global Growth team from the global discovery team.
